Jack Murray, 69, Blackmon Road, Yulee, passed away Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville. A native of Axson County, Ga., he was the son of the late Walter Scott Murray and Fannie Crews Murray, and had lived in Nassau County since 1980, when he relocated from Atlanta, Ga. Mr. Murray was retired from his position as a meat cutter for the Colonial Stores chain of Georgia. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was a Christian, and enjoyed fishing in his spare time. Survivors include his children, Mona Lisa (Bill) Ward, Stephen Jackson (Tammy) Murray, Brenda L. Murray, and Jackie (Tony) Vietze, all of Jacksonville, and Holly (Robert) Stanley of Hilliard; one brother, Elmer (Danni) Murray, Yulee; three sisters, Mae Parrish, Yulee, Donna (Fred) Baldwin, Fort Worth, Texas, and Lucy (Jimmy) Stevens, Yulee; eight grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends, and a very close friend and former wife, Peggie Smith. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home. Interment followed in Hughes Cemetery in Yulee with Military Honors. Mr. Murray’s grandsons: Bryan Vietze, Stephen Vietze, Justin Vietze, Eric Stanley, Matthew Stanley, and nephews – Jeff Colson, Andrew Cook, and W. C. Joiner served as pallbearers.
